Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are memberships available and how much?
Memberships are available and depend on the number of people included in your membership. Click here for more info.
  • Why do you charge the same for adults as you do for children?
Because the BCCM is here for you AND your child. The mission of the BCCM is to inspire curiosity and encourage learning for children and their families through discovery and play with an emphasis of our Cajun culture. Our exhibit spaces and play experiences are designed for both of you to enjoy together.
  • How much is parking?
There is NEVER a charge for parking! We have plenty of parking in our parking lot and lots of street parking surrounding the building as well!
  • How much time should I plan for?
We say it takes about 90 minutes to two hours on average to enjoy all that the museum has to offer.
  • Can I leave the museum after paying and return?
Yes, you may! Simply let the front desk attendant know that you are leaving and plan to return. Upon your return, simply show your paid receipt.
  • What age range is appropriate?
Most children above the age of 1 and up 10 years old enjoy the museum. Adults of all ages enjoy the quality time with their family. After all, everyone is a child at heart!
  • What is the best time to visit the BCCM?
That answer totally depends on your child and their personality. Some children like a quiet setting while others thrive on interacting with other children and enjoy making a new friend (or two or three). Typically in the spring, we welcome field trips in the morning and are less busy in the afternoons. Weekends are typically steady throughout the day as we are a great destination for birthday parties and have two rooms just for them!
  • Is the museum handicap accessible?
The museum is handicap accessible as are most of the exhibits.
  • Do you have an area for nursing?
Yes! We have a small room especially designed for nursing. Please ask the front desk for more information.
  • Do you have a place to eat at the museum?
No, there is no concessions or café inside the museum, but we can suggest a few places nearby. Just ask the front desk for some recommendations.
  • Can I bring my own food into the museum?
No food or drinks are allowed inside the museum, except in the birthday party rooms for booked birthday parties. But we do have picnic tables located just outside for some fun family time or for field trips.
  • Can I drop off my kids to play and come back later?
No, all children must be with an adult chaperone. While our Staff are here to make sure the exhibits are in operating order and have a concern for your child’s safety, we do not offer child care services. Please come and play WITH your child. Memories last a lifetime.
  • Can adults come into the museum without a child?
Adults without children are given a tour of museum by an available staff member. We love giving tours and showing off our awesome museum! Adults without children are never allowed to freely roam the museum for the safety of our guests.
  • What is your security policy?
To keep our visitors safe we require all children to be accompanied by an adult at all times. We also require that all adults be with a child (birth – 10), and we do not admit or re-admit adults without a child present. We also monitor the entrance and exit of the Museum. Our Visitor Service Assistants monitor our exhibits to help make sure that visitors play safe!
  • Do you have lockers for my personal items?
Yes, lockers are available for free. Please inquire at the front desk.
  • Can we buy museum merchandise?
The Bayou Boutique is the Museum’s gift shop. You can find lots of unique gifts for kids, pick-me-ups for mom and even a few things for your sweet tooth!
  • Where does the museum get its financial support?
The Museum is supported through income generated by usage fees and generous contributions from the bayou region’s philanthropic community. Any donation, whether great are small, is always appreciated. To make a donation, please make an online donation or contact the museum’s director at 985-446-2200.
  • How often do you clean the museum?
One consistent complaint we have heard from visitors of other museums is that they were not as clean as they should be. We can assure you that our standards and processes for cleaning the museum reflect on the importance we put on the health and safety of our visitors. Museum Playologists clean and disinfect exhibits and public spaces throughout the day as well as the close of each day. All cloth items are machine washed on a regular basis using a high temperature sanitizing cycle. The Museum conducts deep cleaning (cootie cleaning as we call it) of all the parts of exhibits like the grocery store produce, food and utensils in the café, x-ray puzzle pieces, etc. throughout the week.
  • Do you host birthday parties at the museum?
Of course we do! Click here to see all of our affordably priced fun-loaded party packages!
  • How do I book a group reservation?
For groups with 15 or more children, we do offer a discounted rate for groups with reservations arriving together. Contact us to inquire about reservations.
  • How can I volunteer?
Anyone over the age of 15 can apply to volunteer at the Children’s Museum. Volunteers, as with all staff, must past a criminal background check and a drug test before volunteering. If you are interested in volunteering, please call us 985-446-2200 or email contactus@bccm.info
